Model for payback time of using retired electric vehicle batteries in residential energy storage systems

This work presents a mathematical model for the payback time of reusing electric vehicle batteries as residential energy storage systems from end life automotive application. The was developed using MATLAB software and calculates battery system (BESS) under different scenarios while considering daily electricity consumption profile UK household. results show that purchase price, BESS capacity, unit rates demand are variables with large effects on time. At simulated baseline condition households two people, second-life five models showed ranging 8.3 to 12.8 years. combination rightsizing attend peak standard demand, price drop by 46%, reaching level where EV becomes competitive conventional vehicles, application three or more provides most favourable scenario minimum 4.8 Further reduction in up 41% can be achieved subsidised off-peak rate.
